Fantastic show!
It's great to hear from another individual in the trenches of Ed Tech.
My thoughts on deep freeze or things like it: Having been in several environments where it's used. I find it's more of a hindrance than a help. Especially if you're using FOG. Blasting a machine takes a matter of minutes, time which you'd have wasted 'unfreezing' installing and 'refreezing' on enough occasions to make it at least an even comparison. I also feel like it's training the end user to be less cautious. When searching the web in less than savory locations and you end up with malware a simple reboot is all that's needed to fix the problem. Having to call IT and explain you were somewhere you really shouldn't have been is a bit of a wake-up call for them. Granted many malwares come from legit sites with compromised advertisement content. I have a lot of end users that will call as soon as things look hairy. BEFORE they end up just clicking the "Scan my PC for infections" button and installing the crap.
I'm not in nearly the same boat as Seth regarding printing, however it still leaves a lot to be desired. Our remedy was to compose a very well researched and documented argument about costs to be saved with a limited number of network printers and taking that to the administration. I truly envy the print-free culture that Mark and Shawn seem to have fostered.

Cheers

bbehrendt,

Not quite, but we are working on it. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about you too. Life has been a little crazy for me so things are falling behind a bit. I'll touch base with you to get that back on track. Although we may need to look at after school lets out. Once I'm out of the classroom, things should get a lot more manageable.

Seth, not as of the last week. I tried to apply software updates to her phone before she used it and it wouldn't let me do it. Her iTunes account was set up so I was confused. Then I got a nice little pop-up stating she needed to add a credit card to her account first. Ridiculous!

About the iPhone... itunes would not let me have an account without a valid credit card. When the card expired, I had to update the info before I could get anything from itunes, including free apps and updates. Has that changed?

You find the plug-in for BuddyPress that makes that possible, and I'll install it, Garrett.

Not saying that you need to mention it -- I just thought I would. (I would *really* appreciate being able to edit my comments!)

Oh also, it might be worth mentioning that Ubuntu 10.10 replaced F-Spot with a similar-purpose program called Shotwell.

Yeah, I understand. Could you at least put up the names of all the programs mentioned, maybe?
